Tutong school marks N-Day |

 Tumpuan Telisai Religious School, Tutong II recently marked National Day at the school compound. The ceremony began with the singing of the national anthem, which was followed by a speech by Tumpuan Telisai Religious School Headmistress, Ustazah Pg Armah bte Pg Hj Apong. The event was aimed at celebrating the National Day, to instill love of the nation among the students and to test their general knowledge about the important day. The event also saw the singing of a patriotic song by teachers and pupils, as well as a quiz, colouring and writing contests. The event concluded with the presentation of prizes to the winners by Ustazah Pg Armah and the recital of a doa selamat. Photo shows students participating in an activity. By Amin Hosni  Performing a poetry recitation. - PHOTOS: AMIN HOSNI In conjunction with Brunei's 24th National Day, Dato Basir Primary School, Brunei II A yesterday held their own National Day celebration at the school's Dewan Mutiara. The event began with the hoisting of the national flag and the singing of the national anthem. This was followed by a speech by the School Headmistress, Cikgu Hjh Dyg Sarimah bte Hj Awg Bakir. "In conjunction with the National Day celebrations, educators are asked not only to see the level of academic and achievements of the nation's youths, but we must and most importantly look at the students' achievements in other activities such as fulfilling the needs of al-Quran teachings," she said.  Students taking part in a sports activity. "Our students are the seeds of the nation that will inherit the country's future. Precise commitment from all sides, especially parents, guardians and educators, are important in playing key roles as they will assist them to become successful in many fields," she added. The event proceeded with a National Day pledge by Cikgu Ak Asmady bin Pg Sahdon, accompanied by 20 pupils, and a mass singing of a patriotic song. The event also saw a poetry recitation by Cikgu Rozina bte Hj Salim and a national attire fashion show. Also to enliven the event, all pupils took part in mini sports activities. By NAJ  Enjoying the celebration. - NAJ Amar Pahlawan Primary School in Berakas recently held a two-in-one event - National Day celebration, the launching of the school's Asean corner and a new song - at the school hall. Present as the guests of honour were the school's former headmasters - Cikgu Azwan bin Abdullah Lai (Headmaster of Dato Md Yassin Primary School, Mentiri), Cikgu Hj Lisa bin Hj Nudin (Headmaster of OKBI, Subok Primary School) and Cikgu Hj Metali bin Hj Matusop (Headmaster of Tanjong Chendana Primary School). The celebration began with the recital of surah al-Fatihah, led by Ustaz Pg Hj Kamaluddin bin Pg Hj Mohd Yusof, and was followed by a welcoming speech by Cikgu Hjh Norsiah bte Hj Salleh, Headmistress of Amar Pahlawan Primary School. Among the activities held during the celebration included a colouring contest for Pre-School, Primary One and Two students, singing of patriotic songs by Primary Four pupils, recital of poems by Primary Five students and an essay writing competition for all students. |  Taking the National Day oath | Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah School yesterday organised a three-in-one event namely the closing ceremony for the English Language Month, the opening ceremony of the General Education Month and the National Day Celebration. Present as the guest of honour was the headmistress, Cikgu Hjh Zaiton binti Abu Bakar. Also present were the grandchildren of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, YAM Pg Anak Raheemah Sanaul Bolkiah, YAM Pg Anak Hariisah Widadul Bolqiah and YAM Pg Anak Abdul Raqiib. The closing ceremony for the English Language Month and the opening ceremony of the General Education Month saw some stage performances which included singing, reciting of poem and best dress competition for each class. Among the winners was YAM Pg Anak Abdul Raqiib who is studying in Primary 1 Purple. The National Day celebration, which was held during recess, saw students reading the National Day oath and singing patriotic songs. Also held yesterday morning was a demonstration and briefing for the Nursery and Primary students on how to maintain clean teeth and the right way of brushing teeth. It was organised by several dental nurses from the Ministry of Health. Hjh Umi Kalthom binti Hj Timbang from Head of TASKS Health Organiser said the briefing session was delivered to the parents. After the briefing, the nurses demonstrated to the students the right way of brushing teeth. By Jon Tampoi  Rizqun International Hotel yesterday baked the longest pizza in honour of Brunei's national day celebrations. It was 258 feet long and 572 kg in weight. Twenty chefs putting in 140 working hours between them prepared the pizza. Large crowds thronged the Mall to have a look and also take away pieces of the pie that was sold for $5 a slice. Photo: Azrol Azmi Bandar Seri Begawan - The Rizqun International Hotel yesterday celebrated the 24th National Day by coming up with a 258-feet long pizza, said to be the longest pizza in Brunei. The guest of honour, Dato Paduka Awg Hj Jemat bin Hj Ampal, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, launched the longest pizza, which weighed 572 kilos. Pehin Orang Kaya Ratna Setia Dato Setia Hj Awg Abdul Hapidz bin Pehin Orang Kaya Laksmaha Hj Awg Abdul Razak said the event is not only to mark the record breaking event in Brunei Darussalam and celebrating the 24th National Day, it is also inviting the public to join, encourage and understand the hotel career. He presented the guest of honour with a token of appreciation.
